Offering the most advanced Hair Restoration Treatments

In partnership with Bernstein Medical - Center for Hair Restoration, we offer advanced methods to treat hair loss.

  • There are many causes of hair loss, including stress, postpartum, underlying medical conditions, and nutritional deficiencies. But the most common cause of hair loss is hereditary hair loss (aka pattern baldness).
  • When started early, medical treatments can be quite effective in preventing further hair loss and even growing some hair back.
  • With significant hair loss, surgery is often the best option.

Prescription Medications

Prescription medications are particularly useful in the early stages of the balding process. There are two medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of common hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). These are the oral medication Propecia (which contains finasteride 1mg) and the topical medication Rogaine (that contains minoxidil).

PRP Therapy

Platelet-Rich Plasma is a three-step medical treatment in which a patient’s blood is drawn, spun to extract growth factors, and then injected back into the balding areas to naturally promote hair growth.

Robotic FUE

Robotic Follicular Unit Extraction is a hair transplant procedure in which the ARTAS Robotic System is used to harvest the individual follicular unit grafts with unparalleled precision and consistency. The procedure leaves no linear scarring and has minimal post-op limitations.

FUT/Strip Hair Transplants

Follicular Unit Transplantation is a procedure where the surgeon removes a strip of hair from the back of the scalp. The strip is then microscopically dissected into individual follicular units, which are placed into the balding areas of the scalp.

Hair Loss

Hair loss (alopecia) can be the result of hormonal changes, heredity, medical conditions or a just a common part of the aging process. While anyone can lose hair on their head, it commonly occurs more in men.

Men

By the age of 50, most men will have some degree of genetic hair loss. The most prevalent form of male hair loss is male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia. Male hormones can cause hair loss by shortening the growth, or “anagen,†phase of the hair cycle, which results in the follicles producing progressively shorter, finer hairs.

Women

About 30% of women experience some degree of hair thinning in their lifetime. This can be very gradual, with acceleration during pregnancy and at menopause. Female hair loss can also show seasonal variations and is affected by hormonal changes, medical conditions, heredity and other external factors.

About Schweiger Dermatology Group

Schweiger Dermatology Group was founded to help make excellent dermatology care accessible throughout the Northeast. In 2010, Dr. Eric Schweiger started the practice with a single location in Midtown Manhattan. When he saw the need for high-quality dermatology care that did not require weeks or months of waiting to see a qualified provider, his vision of a multi-location practice was born.
