Freezing Fat Cells: What to Expect After Your CoolSculpting Procedure

Freeze Your Fat Away with CoolSculpting Today

With spring just around the corner, many are already thinking about summer, vacations, and feeling good in their bathing suits. Whether you planned to get in shape as part of a New Year’s resolution or haven’t thought about it at all, spring is often the time when many of us begin to panic and lose self-confidence. CoolSculpting is an option many are turning to that involves freezing fat cells to remove fat.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical alternative to more invasive procedures like liposuction. Once the treatment areas are mapped, a plan is customized to your body’s needs, then a certified medical assistant uses controlled cooling (cryolipolysis) to target and kill fat cells located under the skin. CoolSculpting is a popular choice because it doesn’t require surgery and each session only lasts approximately 35 minutes. During the process, you may feel a pulling sensation in the treatment area, stinging, and possible numbness.

After Treatment Expectations

Results

Results are not instant. In the weeks following your treatment, your body processes the fat and eliminates the dead cells. Your body will continue transforming for nearly two months after treatment is complete.  Some patients take daily or weekly photos to document the process and see the results. Depending on your body, more than one treatment may be necessary to get the desired results.

Recovery time

Since this is a non-invasive procedure, there is no downtime. You can return to your normal routine the same day, so there is no need to take off work or skip the gym.

Complications

There are fewer complications with CoolSculpting than with liposuction. But, there are a few side effects you should be aware of including redness, firmness, mild bruising, cramping, numbness or a tingling sensation. The severity of the side effects depends on your skin sensitivity and the areas you have the treatment performed.

Weight loss

Those initially researching the procedure ask how much weight they will lose. CoolSculpting will not change the number on your scale because you are not losing weight. Losing weight only makes the cells smaller, it doesn’t completely eliminate them like CoolSculpting. Instead, you are freezing and killing fat cells in your body which causes you to lose inches, not weight.

Permanent or not?

We are often asked if this procedure is permanent. While it’s not the same as losing weight, it does require the same actions to maintain the results. If you continue bad eating habits and minimal physical activity your results will not last long-term.

Follow-up appointments

Schedule a follow-up appointment for a few weeks after your initial treatment. At this appointment, the doctor can review any questions you have, diagnose any side effects, and discuss possibilities for additional CoolSculpting treatments for other areas.
