How to Get Clear Skin

Does your skin feel dull and dry? Have you been noticing an increased amount of acne? Acne and dry skin can be extremely uncomfortable. Follow the tips below and you will be on your way to clear skin.

  • Wear sunscreen. If you don’t want a lot of wrinkles in the future, put sunscreen on every day. Preventive care is better than fixing the problem afterward. Winter is not an excuse not to wear sunscreen because the sun’s rays are just as strong.
  • Wash makeup brushes. Many people are guilty of not washing their makeup brushes. Not doing so is one of the easiest ways to cause breakouts, as the brushes hold dirt and bacteria.
  • Use an antioxidant-rich serum. Serums are different from lotions and creams; they are more concentrated so you’ll only need a small amount.
  • Clean your phone. Your smartphone gets so many germs on it throughout the day. It is a breeding ground for bacteria, viruses, and germs. The combination of that causes pimples and irritation. We recommend cleaning your phone a few times a day with a disinfecting wipe.
  • Get enough sleep. Sleep is one of the best things for your body. It gives it the chance to renew and recover from the day’s activities. Not getting enough sleep will leave your skin looking dull and pale.
  • Exfoliate your skin. If you’re looking in the mirror and wishing you had smaller pores, exfoliate your skin. The reason why your pores look bigger is because they are filled with dirt, dead skin cells, and oil. Exfoliating will help get rid of the gunk in your pores.

CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting Treatment Preparation

CoolSculpting® is a revolutionary body contouring procedure designed to freeze away fat from your body. So far, over 3 million CoolSculpting® treatments have been performed worldwide. It has never been easier to remove unwanted fat from your body and is clinically proven, safe and effective.

CoolSculpting® works by utilizing controlled cooling to target and eliminate unwanted fat. The treated fat cells are naturally eliminated from your body. Patients may start to see results in as early as three weeks and will experience the most dramatic results between one and three months. If you want to transform your body by removing fat cells from targeted areas, learn how to prepare for your CoolSculpting® treatment.

  1. Receive a CoolSculpting® consultation. Before starting CoolSculpting® treatment, you must first check to see if you are a candidate. You need to have pliable fat that can be suctioned, in order to receive the treatment. Currently, there are three applicator sizes.
  2. Inquire about a treatment plan. During your consultation, you should ask your healthcare provider how many treatments they recommend. Once the treated fat cells are eliminated, they will not come back.
  3. Bring something to occupy your time. If you have decided to receive CoolSculpting®, congratulations! You’ll need to bring something to occupy your time. Treatments can take up to an hour, so having work, a book, or your laptop with you can make the time go by faster.
  4. Patience is key. Results can be seen in as little as three weeks after one treatment session, however, the most noticeable results occur after one to three months. However, additional treatments in the same or different areas may enhance the desired aesthetic effect.
  5. Long-lasting results are up to you. In order to maintain your desired appearance, you need to upkeep your body. This can be done by keeping up with your normal diet and exercise. By doing so, your long-term results should be sustainable.

Dr. Jessica Simon is Double Board Certified

We want to extend the warmest congratulations to our very own Dr. Jessica Simon for becoming double board certified in pediatric dermatology. This is a prestigious honor, Dr. Simon is the one of the only dermatologists south of Hackensack that has the double board certification in dermatology and pediatric dermatology.

Dr. Simon completed a residency in dermatology at the University of Miami, a fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Emory University, and an internship in pediatrics at Rutgers Medical School. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the attending staff at the University Medical Center in Princeton.

Dr. Jessica Simon has received numerous accolades since beginning to practice dermatology and dermatologic surgery in 2015. She has presented at both national and international meetings on adult and pediatric dermatology. Dr. Simon has been published in numerous textbooks and journals. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, running, singing, traveling and reading.

Dermatology practices offering a certified, pediatric dermatologist are very uncommon. Before selecting a doctor to treat your skin, it is important to understand their qualifications. It is important to note that not everyone who treats skin is a dermatologist. Dermatologists require additional training before receiving their certification.

Just completing additional training doesn’t mean that a dermatologist is ready to treat your skincare needs. They need to become board certified first. Typically, dermatologists become board certified solely in dermatology. There is additional fellowship training after dermatologists complete their residency, however, it is not required.

No matter your skin care needs; Windsor Dermatology will solve your problem. We have an excellent team of six board certified dermatologists that takes pride in their work and strives for the highest quality care. Dr. Jessica Simon specializes in pediatric dermatology and can also treat adolescents and adults. Contact us today to schedule an appointment and learn more about the services we offer.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting vs. Liposuction

Lately, you’ve been noticing extra bulges in your problem areas. They’ve made enough of an appearance that you are seriously considering medicinal weight loss treatments. Liposuction has been around for your entire life, yet you’ve started to hear more and more about CoolSculpting. You’re left wondering which weight loss method is best for you?

Before you make your decision on how to lose the weight, make sure you’re informed on the background of the procedures. Liposuction was introduced in France in the 1920’s; however, it became extremely popular during the 80’s. CoolSculpting became FDA-cleared for the treatment of fat for the flanks in 2010, the abdomen in 2012, thighs in 2014, and the chin in 2015.

Here are a few things to consider when deciding between the two methods- CoolSculpting and Liposuction:

  • What are your goals? Do you want to lose a massive amount of weight? Do you want to touch up areas that aren’t decreasing in size? If your goal is to decrease 5 dress sizes, liposuction is your answer. It provides dramatic results. If you don’t want to lose as much weight, CoolSculpting is the way to go.
  • Are you willing to go under the knife? It’s no secret that receiving liposuction means you are receiving surgery and anesthesia. If the thought of surgery makes you queasy, CoolSculpting is a non-invasive alternative to massive weight loss surgeries.
  • How quickly do you want to see results? Liposuction provides immediate, drastic results. CoolSculpting on the other hand, requires patience. Results take a few months to appear.
  • Do you have time for a longer recovery period? Liposuction is a surgery, thus you’ll need to bank for some recovery time from this method. CoolSculpting does not require any recovery time. In fact, during your procedure you can read, reply to emails, or nap.
  • What is your budget? Surgery fees can be expensive, if your budget doesn’t have room to account for Liposuction, CoolSculpting might be the better alternative for weight loss.

We are happy to announce that we make the newest CoolSculpting technology. We have an excellent team of six board certified dermatologists that takes pride in their work and strives for the highest quality care. Contact us today to schedule an appointment and learn more about the services we offer.

botox-101

Botox 101

Botox has become a popular trend across the United States for its anti-aging properties. The benefits of Botox go beyond reducing wrinkles; there are quite a few reasons to consider utilizing Botox.

  • Low cost. Botox typically costs less than other methods for reducing wrinkles.
  • Quick process. Compared to a facelift where patients are under anesthesia for three hours, a Botox injection takes about 10 minutes.
  • No recovery. Receiving a Botox injection requires no recovery time. You are free to continue with your life. Recovering from a facelift typically takes at least one to two weeks.
  • Minimal side effects. Sometimes, people receiving Botox experience minor bruising or swelling. However, the side effects are significantly reduced if Botox is administered in a clinical setting.
  • Temporary. If for some reason you decide that you do not like Botox, the effect wears off. All you need to do is stop receiving the injection. Other methods of reducing wrinkles are difficult to reverse.
  • Wrinkle reduction. After the temporary injection wears off, many patients see a reduction in the visibility of their wrinkles.

Botox is also used to treat a variety of other ailments, including:

  • Lazy eye. Botox is able to lift the brow and lid above a lazy eye, thus reducing its appearance.
  • Hyperhidrosis. Botox helps seal sweat glands and reduces the production of sweat.

psoriasis

The Future of Psoriasis Treatment

Psoriasis is a non-contagious, chronic skin condition that affects 7.5 million people in America. It is the nation’s most prevalent immunological disease. Although there is no cure for psoriasis, many effective treatments are available. Over the past 10 years, psoriasis treatments have improved tremendously.

During the 1960s and 70s several psoriasis treatments were discovered. Among the treatments were corticosteroids, cyclosporine, and methotrexate. Despite the discovery of many effective treatments, the following decades consisted of no new discoveries. Recently, that has changed and there have been breakthroughs in psoriasis treatment.

Specifically, biologic agents have been manufactured to block a part of the immune system that causes psoriasis. The agents work by suppressing white blood cells, blocking TNF-alpha and interleukins, and binding proteins that cause the inflammation. During clinical trials, the biologic agents proved to be effective in the majority of people.

Since 1985 our Medical Director, Dr. Bagel, has been at the forefront of psoriasis patient care, treatment and clinical research. The Psoriasis Treatment Center of Central New Jersey and Windsor Dermatology is one of the most respected clinical settings in America for psoriasis treatment.

We utilize a few methods to reduce the effect of psoriasis. Among the treatment options are ultraviolet light therapy, biologic therapies, and oral medications. Before deciding on a treatment plan, our talented team of board certified dermatologists will consider the location and severity of involvement along with medical history. Contact us today to schedule an appointment and learn more about our psoriasis treatments.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is taking the nation by (ice) storm. This procedure is a non-invasive alternative to liposuction. CoolSculpting became FDA-cleared for the treatment of fat for the flanks in 2010, the abdomen in 2012, thighs in 2014, and the chin in 2015. The procedure is quick and patients can expect to resume their daily activities immediately. Learn why the nation is obsessed with this treatment.

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting works by suctioning your skin and freezing fat cells through the application of cooling panels. With the most advanced technology on the market, some areas are treated in as little as 35 minutes and discomfort is minimal. Most patients are able to complete work during the procedure or take a nap. CoolSculpting is not meant to replace liposuction, however, it can be used for someone looking for minor body improvements.

How long will the results last?

The treatment is not meant to be a massive weight-loss procedure. CoolSculpting is useful for patients who lead a healthy lifestyle and have some areas on their body that don’t change with healthy eating and exercise. To experience the best results, it is suggested that you receive at least two treatments. CoolSculpting can be permanent if you maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime. If you do not change anything related to diet and exercise, you will gain the weight back.
